Tanager cross country teams compete in Madison by Jim Prosser Nine schools were represented at the Madison Early Bird Invitational Cross Country meet Friday, Aug. 29 with competition in both boys' and girls' divisions.
Class AA teams � Sioux Falls Lincoln, Huron and Mitchell � dominated the top of the meet and no team points were kept, but of the nearly 90 individual boy runners, Tanager placers in the top 20 were: Justin Manning sixth, and Craig Powell 15th. Placing at 28th was Chad Teigen, A.J. Manning finished at 36th, Casey Carlson was in 46th, and Matt Preszler was at 60th.
Other VHS participants were C.J. Harden, Caleb Berry, and Raleigh Tiahrt. If point totals were tabulated, the best three boys A teams were Madison, Vermillion and West Central, in that order.
For the girls, Lindsay Erger from Sioux Falls Lincoln was first and Tanager placers were: Katarina Gombosz 12th, Emily Renner 19th, then Theresa Ring at 25th, and Kati Dehner 36th, along with Kayla Mollet 47th. Sarah Plate, Tera Dehner, Lindsey Isaacson, and Nicki Nelson were at 51st, 54th, 55th, and 57th, respectively.
There were 75 girls in the meet.
The schools competing were: Garretson, Howard, Huron, Madison, Mitchell, Sioux Falls Lincoln, Sioux Valley, Vermillion, and West Central.
