"Electricity makes all of our lives easier, safe, and more enjoyable. Public Power Week recognizes Vermillion Light & Power for providing affordable electricity to customers whenever and wherever it's needed. At this time we also honor the democratic tradition of community decision-making that led to our founding in 1915," said Mike Hays, manager of Vermillion Light & Power. "We hope the citizens of Vermillion will participate in the special event we have planned for them."
Vermillion Light & Power's Public Power Week activities include an open house Oct. 6 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
"Public power's distinct characteristics help Vermillion Light & Power customers lives become more powerful every day while they are working, playing or enjoying the comforts of home. Vermillion Light & Power is driven by public service, not profit. We exist to serve our fellow citizens by saving them time and money, and by protecting their homes and environment so all community members can enjoy life with family and friends," Hays said.
Public Power Week is celebrated in conjunction with the American Public Power Association (APPA) in Washington DC. APPA is the service organization for community- and state-owned electric utilities.
