Wakonda, Irene share FACS teacher by Lindsay Nelson Barbara Satter, who calls herself an "antique teacher," is now the new Family and Consumer Science (FACS) teacher in Wakonda.
She teaches eighth grade Skills For Adolescence (SFA), ninth grade Skills for Life and 10th grade Foods and Nutrition (FACS II).
Satter has been teaching since 1970 with only time off to have children, and this is why she considers herself an antique teacher. She has taught in Kasson-Mantorville, MN, and also in Irene prior to teaching at Wakonda.
Satter was chosen to teach at Wakonda by a joint school board decision to share her between Irene and Wakonda.
Satter is married to Bob Satter, who enjoys substitute teaching as his "second" career. Together they have three children who are all married and have blessed her with five grandchildren. Her son and his family reside in Centerville.
Satter has always loved to learn and was influenced by many teachers to become a teacher herself. Her FACS teacher had the most impact on her and subsequently she became a FACS teacher herself.
Satter is very excited about teaching at Wakonda. She said, "The staff and students have gone out of their way to make me feel welcome."
