Wakonda Legion Auxiliary installs officers for 2004 Wakonda American Legion Auxiliary Gingrich Dixon Unit #13 met on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at the Wakonda Heritage Manor. There were 11 members and one guest present.
Betty Schmidt opened the meeting and turned it over to our District 7 President Shirley Baker, who installed the following officers: Ruth Williams, president; Teresa Skonhovd (absent), first vice; Betty Schmidt, past president; Donna Henriksen, secretary/treasurer; Jill Haver, chaplain; Dolores Haver, historian; and JoAnn Ganschow (absent), sergeant-at-arms.
Newly installed President Williams took over the meeting and continued with roll call and approval of secretary and treasurer's reports. Correspondence was also read. Our District 7 meeting will be held Sunday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. at Avon.
Old business: Discussion was held on serving at Santa Shack and marching in the homecoming parade on Sept. 26.
New business: Discussion was held on playing bingo at the Manor. A motion was made and seconded to give a $100 donation to the Manor for letting us use their facilities.
District President Baker presented our auxiliary with a rose centerpiece and gave her talk on what is happening at the state and national levels and what the plans are for the coming year. She encouraged everyone to keep track of all volunteer hours so that information can be placed on the appropriate forms at the end of the year. Williams presented Baker with a gift.
Special thanks was given to Schmidt for all her years as president. Williams shared a reading about the flag and veterans. Meeting adjourned; lunch was served by Henriksen and Betrece Davis.
The next meeting will be Oct. 15, 7:30 p.m. at the Manor.
