Wakonda Warriors' cross country team is 4-0 by Lindsay Nelson The Wakonda cross country team traveled to Baltic on Saturday, Sept. 6 to participate in the Baltic Bulldog Invitational Cross Country Meet. For the third time, the Warriors brought home the hardware for a first place finish this year.
Top runner for Wakonda was Rob Gregoire. Gregoire was also the meet's first place runner with a time of 17:46. Wakonda also had the meet's second and third place runners, Eric Skonhovd, 18:001 and Jason Holoch, 18:43.
Nick Skonhovd placed fifth, 19:05 and Tyler Moser came in ninth, 19:38.
The Warriors had quite the score deficit to win the first place trophy. The Warriors accumulated 6 points while the second place team; Sioux Falls Christian had 27 points.
For the girls' team, Katie Sokolowski finished in ninth place with a time of 18:06.
The cross country team traveled to Scotland to participate in the Scotland Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
The Warriors were without senior Nick Skonhovd due to injuries and lost Eric Skonhovd during the race also due to injuries. Even with their misfortune, the Warrior team still brought home the first place trophy.
Gregoire led the pack once again with a first place time of 17:03. Holoch and Moser finished with fifth and eighth place with times, 18:28 and 19:13.
The Warriors completed the meet with a win of 14 points beating the second place team, Hanson, which had 24 points.
Sophomore Rob Gregoire said, "I think the team is running very well so far this year. On Tuesday we were without the Skonhovd boys because of injuries and our team still pulled through to win the meet."
