Cross country runners travel to Yankton invite by Jim Prosser The schools represented at the Yankton Cross Country Invitational meet at Pierson Ranch Thursday, Sept. 25, included Papillion LaVista, NE, Norfolk, NE, and Vermillion with host team Yankton.
There was competition in both girls' and boys' varsity divisions. Team points for the girls' varsity division were: Yankton 16; Norfolk 67; Papillion 74; Vermillion 76. There were 31 entries in the division.
First runner across the finish line in the 4000 meter run was Yankton's Kavan Ramsey with a time of 14:33.25. Tanager finishers were: Katarina Gombocz (eighth); Emily Renner (11th); Theresa Ring (16th); Kati Dehner (20th); and Sarah Plate (21st).
For the 5000 meter run varsity boys, team points were: Yankton � 2; Papillion � 48; Norfolk � 86; and Vermillion 92. There were 50 runners in the meet.
Tanager placers were: Justin Manning � sixth; Craig Powell – 11th; A.J. Manning � 31st; Casey Carlson � 33rd; Mitch Bierle � 36th; Matt Preszler � 38th; C.J. Harden � 41st; Raleigh Tiahart � 45th and Caleb Berry � 46.
"The boys are really coming together," said coach Eric Vanlacken. "And the girls are running fairly well. Overall they are all getting into shape."
