Eighth-grade Redbirds lose to Elk Point 18-12 by Jim Prosser Thursday, Oct. 2 the eighth-grade Redbirds faced an Elk Point Middle School contingent, coming away with another loss.
It was an usual defensive battle but the home team came up short when a final attempt to score became a big play pass interception for EP/J and a final 18-12 visitor win.
Offensive stats were greater than might be expected. QB Cody Miller gained 67 yds on four carries; Luke Heine had 12 rushes for 55 yards; Casey Carlson gained 54 yards on three carries, Matt Nelson went 38 yards on six runs, and Miller went 1 for 5 passing with one interception. Miller and Nelson scored the TDs for Vermillion.
The Redbird defense was good as it bent a lot, but gave up three big plays. Leading tackler was Daniel Storm who collected 10 tackles, a fumble recovery, and a pass block; Ryan Husby and Thomas Mollet each had 6 Ts (Mollet also had a QB sack); C.J. Haakinson claimed five Ts with a QB sack.
