Family of the year honored at USD With four children educated at The University of South Dakota, the Sage family of Sioux Falls has been honored with the Family of the Year Award from the university. They were recognized during halftime of the USD football game against Nebraska-Omaha on Sept. 15 as part of USD Family Weekend.
All four of the children of Jim and Maureen Sage received their undergraduate degrees from USD and three either received or are working on a professional degree.
Jennifer (Sage) Tegethoff graduated with honors in math in 1997 and completed her MD in 2001. She is now a third-year pediatric resident in Omaha and married to her 1997 classmate, Todd Tegethoff.
Jamie Sage earned her undergraduate degree in business and now works in the cruise line industry.
Ryan Sage earned a BA in criminal justice this past May and is currently in the School of Law at USD.
Robert Sage received a BSBA in business management with highest honors this year and is now in USD's School of Medicine.
In addition to being accomplished students (all made the dean's list numerous times), they were all highly involved in campus life at USD. Jennifer was an RA and a student ambassador. Jamie held leadership positions in Pi Beta Phi Sorority and volunteered numerous public service organizations. Ryan and Robert held leadership positions in SAE Fraternity and this year Robert was named Greek Man of the Year.
Jim is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin/Oshkosh and works as an investment executive. Maureen attended Midstate Technical Institute and is a receptionist, volunteer and homemaker. The University of South Dakota is not the first to name the Sages family of the year; they previously earned that distinction from the Knights of Columbus in 2001.
