Freshmen lose 54-14 to Sioux City East by Jim Prosser Tuesday, Sept. 30, the freshman football team suffered a 54-14 loss at Sioux City East.
In a hard fought game, the Tanager frosh fell behind in the first half (28-14) and couldn't recover in spite of some good performances on offense (except for the four lost fumbles).
Ryan Scheidel ran for 15 yards on eight carries and completed four passes for 42 yards; Zach Weiss went 66 yards on eight carries; Highrock Fischer gained 52 yards in 15 rushes; and Ryan Gilbertson ran 59 total yards using eight runs and one reception.
Scheidel and Fischer scored their TDs in the second quarter. Paul Hammond ran three yards for the 2 point conversion. Other pass receivers were: Bobby Dykstra � 1 for 16 yards; and Eric McPherson � 2 for 25 yards.
The young Tanagers made a commendable effort defensively, in spite of an overwhelming speed and power by the home team. Leading the tackle chart were: Fischer � 7; Scheidel, McPherson, and Roman LaMie � 5 each; Nick Rasmussen � 4; Nick Schaffer � 3. The team registered nearly 65 tackles.
