Frosh football team puts up good fight against Yankton by Jim Prosser On Thursday last week, Oct. 16 at the VHS field, the Tanager freshman team put up a fierce fight against a tough Yankton crew, as they salvaged a previous week shellacking, by holding the visitors to 14 points. Coach Jason Huska had these comments about the team's performance.
"The team responded to my past week criticism as they redeemed my opinion of them they came to play and were in the game, as they fought hard and gave their best efforts on both sides of the line of scrimmage," he said. "While the visitors scored, they didn't dominate the game."
Offensively, Ryan Gilbertson gained 45 yards on 10 carries; Highrock Fischer 53/10; Paul Hammond 25/2 and Zach Weiss 30/4. Jeff Donnelly was 5 for 8 passing for 98 yards total with one interception.
Individual defense results: Ryan Gilbertson 11 Ts; Fischer 10 Ts; Tony Kronaizl 8 Ts, QB sack; Eric McPherson 6 Ts; Josh Smock 6 Ts; Weiss 4 Ts, pass intercept.
The team's season record was a disappointing 0-6 but some illnesses and injuries plagued the team and the members who played gained much experience in handling adversity.
