Golf team ties for second at Region 1A tournament by Jim Prosser The Tanager golf team came away with third place when their tie at second with Milbank's 337 created the need for a playoff.

The first playoff hole was won by Milbank at the 2003 Region 1A Tournament on Monday, Sept. 29 at Central Valley Golf Course in Hartford. Seven schools entered five member teams with the chance to advance to the State Tournament.

The three teams with the lowest score and 2/3 of the individual entrant's low scores qualified for the third Class A State Golf Meet. While Madison placed first (322), Milbank was second (337), Vermillion third (337), and West Central fourth (374).

Medalist for the meet was James Green from Madison with a score of 72. Alex Schaack was tied for third at 82, Brad Schaack tied for seventh with 84, Nathan Boots tied for eighth (85); and Chris Moen (89) � tied for 14th.

The State A Tournament will be held in Madison next Monday and Tuesday Oct.6-7.
