Irene/Wakonda defeats Tea 49-6 A long awaited victory was finally earned by the Irene/Wakonda Eagles when they defeated the Tea Area Titans, 49-6 last Friday night.
The Eagles showed the young Titans that they were ready to play as the defense held the Titan offense and made them punt. The Eagles then put together a nice drive that ended with a seven yard touchdown run by senior halfback, Jeff Heier. The successful extra point kick by freshman Adam Polley made the score 7-0.
Less than two minutes later, Irene/Wakonda was again in the end zone. This time it was end Brett Anderson, who pulled in a pass from quarterback Alex Nielsen for a 38 yard scoring connection. Polley's kick was again good and gave the Eagles the lead at 14-0.
Junior Brandon Parvin took a hand off at the 20 yard line and sprinted into the endzone to end the Eagle scoring in the first quarter.
The Titans could do little to slow the Eagles down in the second quarter. The Eagle line of Mark Hauger, Brett Mellem, Matt Rempp, Jeremy Rempp, and Anderson dominated the line of scrimmage. This allowed Heier to cross the goal line two more times on runs of three yards and 17 yards. Eagle reserves finished out the quarter.
Parvin scored a touchdown in the third quarter on a two yard run. Brett Anderson was credited with a safety in the end zone. Reserves again took over for the Eagles. Play went back and forth. The Titans earned six points as they put together a nice drive culminated with a three yard plunge.
The Eagles responded with a TD of their own when Polley connected with received Joseph Barnett for a 30 yard aerial strike in the end zone. Neither team scored in the fourth quarter, and the final tally stood at 49-6.
Offensively, Heier carried the ball eight times for 85 yards and three touchdowns. Parvin added 66 yards and two TDs. Nielsen was 2 for 3 passing for 47 yards and a TD.
Defensively, Zane Sorenson was credited with 12 tackles and an interception. Mellem added six tackles, while Shaun Hessman had an interception, and Nick Peterson jumped on a fumble.
The Eagles travel to Alcester this Friday to take on the Alcester-Hudson Cubs at 7 p.m.
