Junior high Eagles defeat Cardinals The Irene-Wakonda Junior High football team played its last home game Sept. 22 against the Dell Rapids Saint Mary's Cardinals.
The game was a seesaw battle. The Eagles started off the scoring when Eric Anderson blasted through the right side for a five-yard touchdown run.
Anderson also scored the 2-point conversion. The rest of the scoring for the Eagles came from the legs of Josh Nielson who scampered for two touchdowns made possible by the outstanding blocking of the kick return team.
Nielson finished the game with 120 yards on kickoff returns. The defense buckled down the second half and held the Dell Rapids Saint Mary's offense to minimal gain.
