Junior varsity team goes 4-1 with win over Lennox by Jim Prosser The Tanager JV entertained Lennox in a football game at the VHS football field on Monday, Oct. 13.
After a bad pitchout ended in the hands of an Oriole defender who took the ball 40 yards for a TD, the Tanagers took control of the game and out-scored the visitors 32-18 for a big victory over the Big 8 rival.
Here is a synopsis of the scoring: #1 � a nine-play drive covering 57 yards ending in a 20-yard scamper by Cody Hays, EP pass Kyle Brunick to Kyle Mollet; #2 � 6-play, 68-yard drive with a Ben Oberle 33-yard run, EP pass Oberle to Branden Hanson; #3 � 78-yard drive, six plays, break away run of 43 yards by J.J. LaMie, EP run by Mollet; #4 � 77 yards in three plays topped by a 49-yard rumble by Jordan Anderson who also plunged over for the EP.
Oberle led the rushing stats with 103 yards/12 carries; Hays had 36 total yards; Anderson 78/7; and Mollet � 34.
An overpowering defense kept the Orioles bottled up most of the time (although a few instances of bending/not breaking came into play)! Cody Hays had a whopping 19 tackles; dLaMie recorded 10 Ts and 3 pass breakups; Tyler Anglin had 8 stops; Brunick had 7 Ts and a fumble recovery; Ryan Mockler was credited with 7 Ts and 1 pass knockdown. Mike Hanson and Kyle Hubert each had 6 Ts; Jacob Geis � 3 Ts, a QB sack, and 2 QB hurries. Altogether the team recorded 90 tackles!
"We played a whale of an offensive game with few mistakes and good coordination," said coach Roger Heirigs. "Our last game of the season will be a return encounter with Yankton, the only mar on our record."
