JV football team has second loss to Yankton by Jim Prosser The Tanager JV team played their second football game against the Yankton Bucks at the VHS field on Monday, Oct. 20.
While the final result was a win for the visitors, the young Vermillion players performed in a more consistant form, accumulating 309 yards on offense and limiting the Yankton JV to 250. The first scores were a 50-yard run, and a 60-yard pass play for Yankton, early in the contest.
The Tanagers scored on a 16-yard run by Ben Oberle, with Jordan Anderson making the 2 point conversion. If not for a fluke play by the visitors on the final possesion in the first half, the score would have been much closer. But, in spite of keeping them out of the endzone most of the second half, they came away with a 29-8 win over VHS JV.
Leading runner for Vermillion was Oberle who gained 3 yards on 16 carries; Anderson also carried the ball 16 times and gained 85 yards; Joe Miller caught a 37-yard pass from Oberle.
A stiff defense was led by: Cody Hayes (12 Ts); Ryan Mockler (8 Ts); Donny Stewart and Tony Kronaizl (7 Ts each); Jacob Geis (5 Ts, 2 QB hurries); Sam Laprath (5 Ts, 1 pass breakup) and J.J. LaMie (5 Ts).
The Vermillion JV football team's final record ends at 4-2.
