Nygaard named as USD Employee of the Month Lois Nygaard of Vermillion has earned the October Career Service Employee of the Month Award at The University of South Dakota.
Nygaard, a secretary in the chemistry department, was honored recently during a reception at USD. University of South Dakota President James W. Abbott presented Nygaard with a plaque and a check.
Mary Berry nominated Nygaard and said, "Lois is the one person in the chemistry department most aware of the 'big picture,' maintaining a constant awareness of what needs to be done, when, and how. She looks after the students needs and helps coordinate their activities with a sincere concern that the students clearly appreciate."
Berry added, "Lois does her job with an attitude that people recognize as constructive and her work is appreciated by everyone in the Department."
"The faculty and staff of the chemistry department make my job very enjoyable," Nygaard said. "The fact that I get to work with students is what I like best about my job."
Nygaard worked for U S West for 30 years before she began working in the chemistry department in September of 1999. Nygaard and her husband Jerry enjoy spending time with their son, Mark, his wife Brandi and their two grandchildren.
