Sioux Falls Washington overpowers Tanagers by Jim Prosser "It was a good overall showing for us against Sioux Falls Washington," coach Barb Rickord said.

"Washington has a very strong team this year and will certainly be a serious contender for the state title (next weekend)," she continued. "Our girls tried hard and did their best and that's all I ask of them."

The dual was played Thursday, Oct. 2, with the following results: Singles: Katy Jelsma (W) def. Jessica Leffers 6-1, 6-0, (7-5); Emily Gaster (W) def. Michelle Rydell 6-0, 6-0; Brittany Gaster (W) def. Lauren Higgins 6-1, 6-0; Kylie Huether (W) def. Zazzee Coleman 6-0, 6-0; Chris Lanpher (W) def. Lindsay Morecraft 6-0, 6-0; Vicky Zawanda (W) def. Liz Day 6-0, 6-0.

Doubles: Jelsma/E. Gaster def. Leffers/Rydell 6-0, 6-0; 6-1, 6-4; B. Gaster/Lanpher def. Higgins/Coleman 6-1, 6-0; Huether/Zawanda def. Morecraft/day 6-0, 6-0.

JV singles: Anna Brown (W) def. Alicia Hesla 10-4; Connie Vogelmann (W) def. Shanon Skillman 10-1; Rachel Feinstein (W) def. Stephanie Cowman 10-0; Julia Brown (W) def. Dru Daniels 10-5; Julia Brown (W) def. Cowman 10-3; Feinstein def. Amanda Granaas 10-0.

"Most of the JV players contested their last match of the season and I think played their best tennis as well," Rickord said. "It was a nice way to end the season and I was proud of their efforts."
