USD women's cross country captures NCC title in Fargo For the second straight year, The South Dakota women's cross country team has won the North Central Conference team title. The Coyote women's team, ranked seventh in NCAA Division II, had a dominate performance, placing six runners in the top 20 and finishing with 49 points at the championships held at Rose Creek Golf Course in Fargo, ND.
The USD men finished fourth in the men's competition with 126 points. Sophomore Tony Turgeon was the top men's finisher, coming in fourth in 25:06.17.
For the Coyote women, senior Jen Feely of Fairmont, MN, was fifth in 22:19.33. She was followed by freshman Amanda Roeman of Dell Rapids, who was sixth in 22:30.49 and sophomore Aimee Nielsen of Mason City, IA, who was seventh in 22:30.49. Also for South Dakota, freshman Amy Steckelberg of Yankton was 14th in 22:59.63. Junior Amber Friedrich of Algona, IA was 17th in 23:09 while senior Jen Buller of Yankton finished 20th in 23:16.18.
For the men's team, other finishers included Shane Roder of Linn Grove, IA, 28th, 26:19.83; Bret Fransen of Edgerton, MN, 31st 26:35.43; Matt Dewald of Yankton, 34th, 26:41.24; and Nate Seier, Dubuque, IA, 36th, 26:54.21. Brendan Huber of Huron, 43rd, 27:37.06.
Both the USD men's and women's squad will compete in the North Central Regional in Wayne, Neb., on Nov. 8.
