VHS volleyball team claims victory Monday by Jim Prosser The Vermillion volleyball team outlasted Alcester/Hudson last Monday night, Oct. 6, when they won a five-game varsity match 17-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-16, 15-12.
The freshman team was swept by the Alcester/Hudson Cubs in a two-game set 17-25, 18-25 but the JV team won in two games with scores of 25-23, 25-22.
Individual stats for the varsity team were: Colette Joy � 25 P, 37 A, 9 K, 23 D, 3 B, 14 POS, 1 ace; Ellen Odson led the offense with 23 SA, 15 A, 11 D, 3 B, 21 POS, 4 aces; Jackie Thomas � 18 P, 16 A, 5 K, 21 D, 15 POS, 6 aces; Melissa Olson � 14 P, 20 A, 7 K, 10 B, 10 D; Annie Carlson � 18 P, 36 A, 7 K, 4 B, 17 D, 14 POS; and Michelle Olson � 10 P, 20 A, 4 K, 4 B, 4 D, 14 POS.
The JV leaders were: Heather Walker � 14 POS, 2 aces, 2 K, 1 B, 9 D; Kelsie Austin � 9 POS, 1 ace, 1 K, 7 D; Brittany Campbell � 4 SA, 6 D; Brittany Weydert 6 K; Kinsey Weydert � 2 SA, Patricia Merrigan � 1 B.
The JV season record is 7-5 and they were riding a five straight match win streak.
The freshman stats were: Brittni Stewart � 19 P, 12 A, 6 D; Annie Roche � 8 P, 17 A, 1K, 1B, 5 D,8 POS, 2 aces; McKinsey Weydert � 9 A, 2 D, 4 SA, 10 POS, 3 aces; and Kristina Blythe � 6 P, 9 A, 2 K,4 D, 8 POS, 3 aces.
The Tanager varsity record stands at 5-15 and they faced Madison Tuesday, Oct. 7.
