Volleyball losing streak extended at West Central

Volleyball losing streak extended at West Central by Jim Prosser Vermillion continued its volleyball losing streak as the team faced West Central for the second straight time at the Hartford High School gym last Thursday, Oct. 2, 25-17, 25-20, 25-20, to bring their season record to 4-15.

Colette Joy led the Tanager varsity offense with 24 passes, 19 attacks, 5 kills, 7 digs, 8 points on serve, and 1 ace. Jackie Thomas scored 9 P, 10 A, 2 K, and 1 D. Ellen Odson had 13 SA, 16 POS, 1 B, and 7 D; Annie Carlson had 13 P, 17 A, 7 K, 1 B, 10 D, and 10 POS. Michelle Olson scored 7 P, 8 A, 2 K, 13 D. Melissa Olson was credited with 7 P, 8 A, 3 K, 1 D, and 4 POS.

The junior varsity fared well with a victory, 25-10, 18-25, 25-21, upping their season record to 6-5. Heather Walker led offensively with 15 POS, 7 aces, 4 kills and 11 digs. Kelsie Austin had 6 digs, 11 POS, 4 aces; Brittany Weydert recorded 2 B and 6 D; Brittany Campbell had 10 set assists; Patricia Merrigan (4) and Paige Prosser (3) led the hitters with kills. The team scored 68 points on serve and 15 aces.

The freshmen lost to the Trojan C team 25-15, 19-25, 24-26. Chelsea Gauer was credited with 15 A, 4 K, and 11 POS; McKinsey Weydert led in digs (5), and set assists (12); Annie Roche had 11 P, 9 A, 2 K, 2 B, D, 15 POS, and 5 aces.
