Volleyball team wins home match vs. Canton by Jim Prosser The Vermillion volleyball team outscored Canton last Thursday night, Oct. 16, when they won a four-game varsity match 25-18, 25-27, 25-16, 25- 14.

The freshman team was swept by the Canton C-Hawks in a two-game set 19-25, 21-25 and the JV team lost two games out of three with scores of 18-25, 25-18, 13-15.

Individual stats for the varsity team were: Leading hitters, Colette Joy � 14 K, 13 D, 13 POS; Melissa Olson � 8 K, 10 D, 14 POS, 2 aces; Ellen Odson led the offense with 22 SA, 21 POS, 8 aces, 2 B, 7 D; Jackie Thomas � 2 SA, 20 D, 2 B; Michelle Olson � 3 K 3 B, 18 D, 17 POS; Annie Carlson � 7 K, 11 D, 14 POS.

The JV leaders were: Kinsey Weydert � 16 POS, 10 SA; Heather Walker � 7 K, 4 B, 9 D; Erin Austin � 8 POS, 2 aces; Brittany Weydert � 3 K, 2 B; Laura Aga � 2 K, 3 D; Kelsie Austin � 9 D. The JV season record is 8-7.

The freshman stats were: Brittni Stewart � 6 D, 5 K, 8 POS, 1 ace, 2 B; Annie Roche � 5 D, 3 POS, 1 ace, 2 K, 1B; Briann Lueders � 8 POS, 2 aces; Kristina Blythe � 5 POS, 2 aces, 4 D; McKinsey Weydert � 9 SA, 1 B, 4 D, 6 POS. C team season record is 4-9.

The Tanager varsity record stands at 6-16 and will host Beresford Tuesday, Oct. 21.
