Warriorettes peak against Marion Bears with victory by Lindsay Nelson The Wakonda Warriorettes volleyball team is 5-12 but their record may be deceiving as they proved with their win over the hard-hitting and well-respected Marion Bears Thursday night.
The match started off with both teams aggressively attacking the net. Marion led most of the first game and sneaked by the Warriorettes with a 25-23 win.
The Warriorettes came out the second game and took over the match, winning 4-1. Game scores for the night were 25-23, 18-25, 24-26, and 23-25.
Nikki Johnston stepped up to the net and dominated, allowing very few balls to make it over from the Bear's side. Johnston ended the night with 19 kills and 12 blocks. Kim Henriksen also slammed down 10 spikes and two blocks, along with Tiffany Ganschow with six kills.
The Warriorettes' serves were another strong point that contributed to their win over the Bears.
Chelsa Bohlmann and Lindsay Nelson led at the service line with 13 points each. Bohlmann added four aces and Nelson served up three. Emily Logue and Ganschow added seven and six points from the line respectively.
Digs was Bohlmann's middle name as she returned 24 of the bear's spikes. Not far behind her was Johnston with 18 digs and Henriksen with 15 for the night.
Bohlmann also set up the Warriorettes 81 times with 71 counting as set assists.
The Warriorettes C team lost in two games against the Bears and the B team won in three.
The Warriorettes played the Hurley Bulldogs in TVC action on Tuesday, Oct. 7. The teams battled for five games with Hurley coming out on top. The game scores were 25-20, 20-25, 25-18, 20-25 and 15-9. The Warriorettes' C team took their game in three and the B team lost in two.
