Creighton defeats USD women South Dakota dropped a 64-54 decision to Division I Creighton in exhibition play at the Civic Auditorium in Omaha, NE, on Nov. 1.
All-American Mandy Koupal opened with a double double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. The senior forward also had four blocks and three steals.
Senior point guard Stacy Schooley also had 14 points for South Dakota. Senior guard Erin Bourne added 8 points, including two 3-point baskets.
Sophomore Meghan Woster had 6 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Overall, the Coyotes made 21-of-56 field goals for 37.5 percent. USD was just 2-of-11 from 3-point range but hit 10-12 free throws for 83.3 percent.
Creighton was led by Dayna Finch who had 23 points and eight rebounds, including seven of 11 from 3-point range. All-American Christy Neneman had 22 points, 10 rebounds and four assists for Creighton, which tied for first place in the Missouri Valley Conference in 2002-03 and returned three starters. They were picked to finish second in the MVC in 2003-04.
Creighton hit 22-of-66 field goals for 33.3 percent while making 11-of-30 from 3-point range. Creighton led 33-24 at halftime and outscored the Coyotes, 31-30, in the second half.
The exhibition does not count in the Coyotes' season record.
