Daschle: HUD grant headed to Vermillion

Daschle: HUD grant headed to Vermillion Sen. Tom Daschle has announced that the Department of Housing and Urban Development has released two grants worth $130,731, respectively to 505 West Main Ltd. in Vermillion and Greenridge Apartments Ltd. in Mitchell. Funding for each grant was appropriated in the FY 2003 Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Act.

"The service coordinator positions funded by these grants will support vital services for elderly and disabled persons in Vermillion and Mitchell," said Sen. Daschle. "Service coordinators play an important role by helping to ensure elderly and disabled persons are aware of and have access to important community services that allow them to live independently."

The service coordinator grants are given to privately owned multifamily assisted housing units that employ service coordinators.

Service coordinators are tasked with connecting elderly and disabled persons with support services in the community, thereby helping to prevent unnecessary institutionalization.
