Eighth-grade A, B teams win Yankton tournament On Tuesday, Oct. 28, the Vermillion eighth-grade volleyball team finished the season playing in the Yankton tournament.
The tournament was pool play with Vermillion A in the Black Pool #2. Teams in the bracket included Gayville-Volin, Norfolk C and Yankton B.
Vermillion A defeated Gayville 21-13 and 21-14 in the first match. In the second match Vermillion A defeated Yankton B 21-10 and 21-15.
In the final match Vermillion beat Norfolk C 21-12 and 21-16. Vermillion A won every game and finished first in the three pools.
Vermillion B won the red pool tournament. Teams in their pool were Yankton D, and Brandon Valley C. Vermillion B won the first match against Yankton D 21-19 and 19-17.
The Vermillion C team split games in the red pool. Teams in their pool included Yankton E and Brandon Valley. In the first match Vermillion B won the first game 20-15 and lost the second game 21-18. In the second match Vermillion B split with Brandon Valley D losing the first game 21-10 and winning the second game 21-19.
Coach Jerred was very pleased with the season.
"The girls did a great job this year. They learned a lot and are ready to move up to the high school. I had a great time coaching this year. They were a great group of athletes to work with."
