Johnny Cash to be celebrated at Gayville Hall November 15 Johnny Cash, the recently deceased icon and legend of American country music, will be celebrated by Nick Schwebach, Owen DeJong, and John and Susan McNeill at 8 p.m. Saturday in concert at Gayville Hall in Gayville.
Johnny Cash "never sang a song that people didn't like or couldn't understand," said John McNeill. It was "music that wanted your friendship, music that made you feel glad and never guilty, music that said 'let's have a good time.'"
The musicians have performed widely together in a Hank Williams tribute conceived by John McNeill that has been Gayville Hall's most popular show, according to proprietor Doug Sharples.
Schwebach, who plays lead guitar, and DeJong, on fiddle, are members of the band Poker Alice and have toured with the Comfort Theatre Company's production of Always…Patsy Cline. They are both from rural Wakonda.
The McNeills, of Springfield, are regular performers at Gayville Hall, and John is the hall's emcee.
Gayville Hall is located at 502 Washington Street in Gayville. Tickets are $10 at the door or $12.50 for a reserved seat. Call (605)-267-2859.
