Junior high Eagles start out strong by Nikki Johnston The newly formed Irene-Wakonda junior high girls' basketball team traveled to Centerville on Nov. 6 to take on the Tornadoes.
After just two weeks of practice these girls were ready to get their games started and to show people how competitive they are going to be this season.
In the seventh grade game the Eagles got off to a bit of a slow start with a 2-0 first quarter score in favor of I-W. But after the nerves and butterflies were shook off the girls took the game into their hands and ran away with a final score of 18-7.
Leading scorers for the team were Melanie Kathol, Nicole Nielsen, and Tiffany Gleich with 4 points each.
