Manning, Joy receive VHS student honors Justin Manning and Collette Joy were tabbed as the Vermillion High School October Students of the Month.
They were honored for their efforts with academic and extra-curricular activities. These seniors will receive a $100 scholarship from First National Bank in Vermillion.
Manning "has done an excellent job of representing his school throughout his tenure at VHS," according to his faculty nomination. His parents are Mike and Linda Manning, and his college plans are to attend the pharmacy school at South Dakota State University.
His list of activities includes swimming, Student Council, Earth Club, cross country, show choir, track, Renaissance and History Club.
Manning's honors are extensive, such as being a state swimming champion, a Boys State representative, a class treasurer, and an All-Stater in both cross country and chorus.
Joy has had a varied background of activities in both the academic and athletic realm. She has been a three-time class president, a National Honor Society president, a Girls State delegate and a senior captain on the volleyball team.
Her other activities include track, Natural Helpers, dance team, band, softball and show choir.
Joy's college plans are to either major in public relations/marketing or organi-
zational communications. Keith and Candy Joy are her parents.
