Obituaries Jason Nelsen

Jason Lee Nelsen, age 33, formerly of Vermillion, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003 at his home in Wallingford, IA, after a long battle with cancer.

Mr. Nelsen was born Sept. 9, 1970 in Vermillion to Rick Nelsen and Melanie Nelsen (Duimstra). He attended Vermillion schools and graduated from Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, IA. He was a technician at GKN Armstrong Wheel Co. in Estherville, IA, and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Vermillion. He was united in marriage on Aug. 24, 1996 to Melanie DuBois and they lived in the Wallingford, IA area for the past seven years.

One of Mr. Nelsen's many talents was his love for drawing. He displayed so much passion and pride in all of his work as well as in his life. He always had a smile and kind word for everyone. Mr. Nelsen touched so many hearts. He was such a special person who was greatly loved and will be very missed.

Survivors include his wife, Melanie of Wallingford, IA; his parents, Melanie Nelsen and Rick (Rose) Nelsen of Vermillion; brothers, Shane and Chad Nelsen of Vermillion and Rickey Neil of Tyndall; sister, Stephanie (Glen) McDonald; a nephew, Zachary McDonald of Vermillion; his grandmother, Betty Nelsen of Vermillion; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Leland Nelsen and maternal grandparents, Peter and Violet Duimstra.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Vermillion, with the Rev. Paul Matchan officiating. Burial was held in Meckling Cemetery. Visitation was at Iverson-Siecke Funeral Home.

June Hackett

June Francis Hackett, 84, of Wakonda, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003 at Sioux Valley Vermillion Care Center in Vermillion.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at the United Methodist Church in Wakonda. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery at Wakonda.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Hansen Funeral Home in Irene.

Eleanor Lyso

Eleanor A. Lyso, 83, Yankton, and formerly of Wakonda, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2003, at Avera Yankton Care Center.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 at Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church, rural Vermillion, with the Rev. Elizabeth Johnson officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter's Cemetery, rural Vermillion.

Visitation is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Trinity Lutheran Church, Yankton. Iverson-Siecke Funeral Home, Vermillion, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lyso was born Aug. 1, 1920, at Vermillion to Albert W. and Elsie (Johansen) Erickson. She graduated from University High School, Vermillion. She married Harold S. Lyso Feb. 20, 1944, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Her husband died March 6, 1996.

She held all the offices in Ladies Aid, Pleasant Valley and Wakonda School Election Boards. She was also a member of Sew & Chat Club, Granny Squares Club and Yankton Senior Citizens Center.

She was a member of Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church and attended Trinity Lutheran Church, Yankton.

She is survived by one son, Don (Janice) Lyso, Wakonda; four granddaughters, Becky (Kary) Gregoire of Yankton, Sandy Lyso of Sioux Falls, Kelly Freng of Boise, ID, and Stacy Olson of Wakonda; one sister, Evelyn Severson, Gayville; one brother, Wayne Erickson, Vermillion; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Carol Kay Lyso, and one son, Roger Allen Lyso.
