SDPB schedules Winter Membership Drive

SDPB schedules Winter Membership Drive Wind down during this busy time of year with great music and special programming during SDPB's Winter Membership Drive from Nov. 29-Dec. 7.

From Irish ballads to Gospel to contemporary musical hits, you'll find plenty worth watching � plus the chance to support the programs and services of SDPB.

Highlights include: the wildly popular singer Daniel O'Donnell (Nov. 30, Dec. 4 & 6); toe-tapping Gospel bluegrass sounds (Nov. 29 & Dec. 7); a nostalgic, warm and charming Lawrence Welk special (Dec. 3 & 6); a rousing performance of Oklahoma! (Nov. 29); pop superstar Neil Diamond (Dec. 1); and the family values and songs of the Duttons (Dec. 4).

Daniel O'Donnell

Sunday, Nov. 30, 7 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 4, 7 p.m.

The Daniel O'Donnell Show spotlights international singing sensation Daniel O'Donnell as he performs popular music favorites including romantic, pop and country standards, traditional Irish tunes and lively dance numbers.

Sunday, Nov. 30, 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 6, 5:30 p.m., O'Donnell returns with Daniel O'Donnell and Friends. The dynamic popular singer presents an eclectic mix of easy listening, country, Irish and rock n' roll songs with special guest singers.

Lawrence Welk

Wednesday, Dec. 3, 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6, 5:30 p.m.

Warm holiday wishes are coming your way with A Lawrence Welk Family Christmas. The special features the stars of The Lawrence Welk Show, with a guest appearance by the Osmond Brothers, to share past holiday memories and more than 30 favorite Christmas songs.

Gospel Bluegrass

Saturday, Nov. 29, 5:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 7, 9 p.m.

A Gospel Bluegrass Homecoming raises spirits with this unique American sound. The special brings together some of the finest practitioners of Southern Gospel and bluegrass, who join voices and instruments in a celebration of the very roots of American music.


Saturday, Nov. 29, 7:30 p.m.

Screen action and romantic star Hugh Jackman is lighting up the landmark Rodgers & Hammerstein musical Oklahoma! Jackman performs the role of cowpoke Curly for the rousing Great Performances special.

Neil Diamond

Monday, Dec. 1, 9:30 p.m.

He's had dozens of great hits from throughout the years. Neil Diamond: Special Moments In Concert From Ireland is a rousing music special featuring crowd-pleasing performances of Diamond's top songs.

The Duttons

Thursday, Dec. 4, 8:30 p.m.

Family, stunning harmonies, dance numbers and instrumental virtuosity in a wide variety of musical styles and holiday selections make The Duttons Holiday Special an instant Christmas classic.

Red Green

Thursday, Dec. 4, 10 p.m. The Possum Lodge is up to the usual duct-tape madness � all in the holiday spirit � in It's a Merry Red Green Christmas. As usual, it's a hilarious example of what not to do.

American Soundtrack

Other winter membership drive highlights include American Soundtrack This Land is Our Land: The Folk Rock Years II, airing Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. This special features Judy Collins with co-hosts Michelle Phillips and Denny Doherty (the surviving members of the Mamas and Papas).

Afterwards at 8:30 p.m., American Soundtrack Rock at Fifty features the highlights in rock and roll over the past 50 years.

America's Home Cooking

Saturday, Nov. 29 and Dec. 6, 1 p.m.

You'll be glad to get into the kitchen with these tasty, easy to follow recipes. "Cookies" warms the air on Nov. 29 and "Crock Pots" sharpens appetites on Dec. 6.
