USD men's basketball signs two prep standouts to letters of intent University of South Dakota men's basketball coach Dave Boots announced the signing of a pair of South Dakota high school standouts to national letters of intent Wednesday to join USD for the 2004-05 season.
Colby Fitzgerald (6-1, 175 pounds) averaged 25.0 points, 5.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game as a junior last season for St. Mary's High School in Dell Rapids. Fitzgerald led St. Mary's to a 24-1 record and to a semi-final appearance in the Class B state tournament last season. A solid shooter, Fitzgerald knocked down 62 percent of his shots from the field and 42 percent from beyond the arc during his junior season.
Dustin Little (6-5, 195 pounds) led Castlewood High School to the Class B state tournament finals and a 21-3 record as a junior last season. Little, who will join his brother Brooks on the USD basketball squad next season, averaged 19.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game last season.
"We are very pleased to add two quality players to our program," Boots said. "Colby and Dustin are both all-around players that come from great winning programs."
South Dakota opens its 2003-04 season on Friday, Nov. 24, when it plays host to South Dakota Tech at 3 p.m. in the DakotaDome.
