USD swimming, diving teams sweep dual meets The University of South Dakota men's and women's swimming and diving team recorded a sweep of a dual with Minnesota State-Mankato at Mankato, MN, on Saturday, Nov. 15.
The USD women's team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 125-115 win. The Coyote men also opened 2-0 with a 110-87 victory. Between the two squads USD recorded 16 titles, including three relay crowns.
USD's women's team recorded two relay titles and six individual crowns. The Coyotes swam to relay victories in the 400 free in 3:47.31. The team included Karen Burke, Carson City, NV, Brae Olson, Hutchinson, MN, Abby Heinz, Sergeant Bluff, IA, and Audrey Donley, Arvada, CO.
The Coyotes won the 400-yard medley with a clocking of 4:11.88. That relay included Theresa Eustice, Waseca, MN, Jill Stensby, Portland, OR, Heinz, and Kari Kopecky, Warroad, MN.
Individually, the Coyotes earned wins from Jessica Tietz, Williston, ND, 500-free, 5:32.84; Burke, 100 free, 58.02; Heinz, 200 free, 2:02.33; Kopecky, 50 free, 25.57; Olson, 200 fly, 2:19.79; and Donley, 1000 free, 11:20.07.
In diving, Lindsey Schafer, Mandan, ND, was second in the 3-meter competition in 227.35 and third in the 1-meter diving.
The Coyote men earned seven individual titles and a relay crown. Taking titles in individual events included: Garth Meacham, West Des Moines, IA, 200 fly, 2:03.10; Ryan Malone, Lincoln, NE, 100 free, 50.83; Chuck Scribner, Hastings, NE, 200 free, 1:47.86; Eric Thorsen, Eden Prairie, MN, 1000 free, 10:36.53; Tyler Scheer, Lincoln, NE, 50 free, 22.48; Dan Gay, Fairbury, NE, 1-meter diving, 226.55 points, and 3-meter diving, 243.25 points.
The Coyotes also captured the 400-yard medley relay in 3:42.36. That team included Jeremy Weed, Verona, WI, Jason Burke, Bellevue, NE, Scheer and Bram Olson, Hutchinson, MN.
South Dakota will travel to Denver, CO, for a double dual on Nov. 21. The Coyotes will compete with Denver University and Metro State.
