Veterans' Day celebrated at Wakonda by Nicole Mosberger With our forces in Iraq today our Veterans' Day was more meaningful than ever for school-aged students. Wakonda School celebrated Veterans' Day Tuesday, Nov. 11 with a program.
Elementary students sang This is America, I Love My Country, and American Tears. Middle school students sang Veterans Day and high school students sang This is Our Land and This is My Country.
Emma Jensen and Jeff Heier, Girls and Boys State representatives, spoke about when they went to state and what they learned. They also thanked the Legion Auxiliary and American Legion for sponsoring them to go to Girls and Boys State.
When the flag was presented everyone said the Pledge of Allegiance. Lindsay Nelson then sang the Star Spangled Banner.
Chris Swenson gave the invocation and closing prayer.
John Haver introduced the keynote speaker Paul Jensen who spoke about giving back to the country and looking out for our future by getting involved. He also quoted famous leaders, such as Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and writer Thomas Paine.
Lunch followed the program. The Student Council put the lunch on and the FACS classes helped prepare the meals as well. They served ham, twice baked potatoes, rolls, corn, pie, cookies, juice, coffee and water.
The meal went great, everyone enjoyed their meal. Many thank yous were received, not only for the meals, but for everyone who helped put on the program. Dana White and the Student Council organized the event.
