Hinton, IA falls to Tanagers 64-41 by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers shot down Hinton, IA 64-41 in boys' varsity basketball Dec. 13 at the Elk Point-Jefferson Classic in Elk Point. The Tanagers shot 53 percent from the field in the contest.
Ben Oberle came off the bench and scored 12 points. Nathan Boots has 16 points, six assists and six rebounds.
The Tanagers led 19-11 at the end of the first period, led 33-23 at halftime, and then held a lead of 52-30 going into the final period.
The Tanagers committed only 7 turnovers in the victory.
"We really played well as a team," said Vermillion varsity coach Jason Huska. "We got balanced scoring and on defense we played good team defense in the second half. I was happy with our offensive movement. It was a good win for us. We had several contributors and we need that to be successful."
The Vermillion varsity improved its record to 1-1, while Hinton dropped to 2-2.
The Vermillion varsity sank 4 of 9 three-pointers and made 4 of 14 from the line. The Tanagers sank 28 of 53 field goal attempts, while Hinton was 16 of 54 from the field. Hinton made 4 of 21 three-point attempts and connected on 5 of 9 free throw attempts.
