Honor band includes Stockland, Jensen by Lindsay Nelson Every fall, students participating in high school band are given the chance to try out for Honor Band.
This year Wakonda students Jeanie Stockland and Emma Jensen qualified for Honor Band.
Students that show interest in Honor Band receive music which they are allowed to use in preparation for auditions. They then are asked to tape themselves playing the Honor Band music and send their tapes in to the judges.
After being judged the students are then told whether or not they made Honors Band.
Stockland and Jensen traveled with Wakonda's band teacher Julie Morren to Yankton on Nov. 24 for a fun-filled day full of band activities.
Along with all the other students chosen for Honors Band, they started rehearsal at 8:30 a.m. and continued practicing the chosen pieces of music until 5 p.m.
The Honor Band participants then gave a concert at 7 p.m. at the Yankton High School Summit Theatre, directed by Dennis Carlson of Chamberlain. The songs the Honor Band performed were And Evermore Shall Be, Hill Country Holiday, Fiera Winds, and Seventy Six Trombones.
"The conductor was excellent and the concert was wonderful," Morren said.
