Koupal named NCC player of week South Dakota's Mandy Koupal, who was named MVP in leading South Dakota to two wins at the Southwest Minnesota Basketball Classic on Dec. 5-6, was named the North Central Conference Player of the Week, according to an announcement by the league on Monday.
Koupal, a senior from Wagner, averaged 31.5 points and 11.0 rebounds as South Dakota defeated 19th-ranked Minnesota-Duluth, 65-61, and Southwest Minnesota State, 75-61. With the two wins, the Coyotes improved to 9-1 and won their eighth straight game.
Koupal, who with teammate Stacy Schooley were named to the All-Classic squad, made 22 of 40 field goals for 55 percent, including three of seven from 3-point range. She also made 16 of 19 free throws for 84.2 percent. Koupal had 22 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals in the two wins by South Dakota. She scored 32 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the win over Minnesota-Duluth. Then, she had 31 points and 11 rebounds in the win over host Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday night.
The NCC honor is Koupal's eighth while a member of the Coyote women's basketball team.
