Steamboat era topic of lecture The Vermillion Chapter of the South Dakota Archaeological Society is sponsoring a public talk by Professor Larry Bradley of the USD Anthropology Department on Sunday, Dec. 14 at the W.H. Over Museum.
Bradley has been researching the steamboat era on the Missouri River for more than 10 years. Remote sensing, old maps, photographs, and a variety of archaeological techniques have provided locations of boat wrecks and structures associated with the maintenance of river traffic in the 19th century.
The talk is titled "The Search for Traces of the Steamboat Era between Sioux City, Iowa, and Yankton, South Dakota."
Professor Bradley will use archival photographs and current images from his research. The presentation will be given at 2 p.m. in Sletwold Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public; refreshments will be served.
