Tanagers lose to Tigers in overtime

Tanagers lose to Tigers in overtime by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers lost to the Harrisburg Tigers 57-50 in an overtime battle in boys' basketball Dec. 11 at Harrisburg.

The score was tied 46-46 after regulation.

This was the Tanagers' season-opener. The loss gave Vermillion varsity a record of 0-1 while Harrisburg moved to 1-0.

Tyler Brown scored 16 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, made three steals and had six assists.

"Brown had an all-around super effort," said Vermillion varsity coach Jason Huska.

The Tanagers fell behind 15-13 after the opening period, trailed 26-25 at halftime, and then held a lead of 42-39 after the third period.

"We had a chance to win the game," said coach Huska. "We got a great look but it just didn't fall for us. We looked a little tired in overtime and we made some errors. Overall, I'm pleased with our performance."

The Vermillion varsity connected on 3 of 14 three-point attempts and hit 3 of 10 free throw attempts. The Tanagers sank 22 of 53 field goals, while Harrisburg was 23 of 48 from the field. Harrisburg made 3 of 13 three-point tries and sank 7 of 14 free throw tries.
