Tanagers rally to defeat Lennox 35-31 by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers rallied to defeat the Lennox Orioles 35-31 in boys' basketball Dec. 16 at Lennox in a matchup that was close throughout.
The Vermillion JV had trailed by three going into the final period.
It was a total team effort and an outstanding performance.
The Tanagers jumped in front 10-9 after the first quarter, trailed 16-14 after the second quarter, and then trailed 27-24 after the third quarter.
The Vermillion JV held onto the win from the free throw line, making 17 of 24 charity tosses to 1 of 7 for LHS.
"The JV team performed well and showed glimpses of what this team can do," said Vermillion JV Coach Jon Ruevers. "Great effort on defense; our team defense won the game."
The Vermillion JV now has a record of 2-0, while LHS fell to 0-1.
The VHS junior varsity hit 0 of 3 three-point tries. The Tanagers made 9 of 19 field goals, while LHS was 14 of 32 from the field. LHS connected on 2 of 4 three-point attempts.
