Tornadoes upset Warriors in conference play by Lindsay Nelson The Wakonda Warriors went head to head with the Centerville Tornadoes on Dec. 16 in Tornado territory.
Despite the Warriors' tenacious play, the Tornadoes took the game 72-55.
The Warriors came out slow, allowing the Tornadoes to score 22 points to the Warriors' 7. Each quarter became better as the Warriors picked up the pace and outscored the Tornadoes in the third quarter 14-9.
The Warriors continued to gain points on the Tornadoes but ran out of time at the buzzer with a 72-55 loss.
Brett Logue led the Warriors with 13 points followed by teammate Shawn Hessman with 12. From the line, Logue sank seven of eight free throws with the team as a whole draining 20 of their 28 foul shots.
Alex Nielsen and Tyler Moser grabbed nine and eight rebounds respectively and Nielsen added five blocked shots, giving the Tornadoes a tough time on the inside.
Wakonda's junior varsity took their game against the Tornadoes in overtime 44-35. The game was tied in the fourth quarter 35-35 as the last seconds clicked away sending the game into overtime. The Warriors' junior varsity went on to score 9 points and kept the Tornadoes scoreless, winning the game 44-35.
Tyler Knudson led in scoring with 17 points followed by Bo Martz with 11. The Warriors can be seen in action next in Freeman against Freeman Public, Jan. 6 at 6:30 p.m.
