Vermillion fire department receives $15,881 FEMA grant U.S. Senator Tim Johnson has announced that the Vermillion Volunteer Fire Department will receive a $15,881 grant as part of the 2003 Assistance to Firefighters Grant program.

The funds for the Vermillion Volunteer Fire Department come under the Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety program. This includes training, wellness and fitness, firefighting equipment, personal protective equipment, and modifications to fire stations and facilities.

The grant program awards one-year grants directly to local fire department to enhance their abilities to respond to fire and fire-related hazards in their communities. The grants are awarded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
