Men sweep, women split at double dual swim meet The University of South Dakota men's and women's swimming and diving teams won 15 titles and swept duals with South Dakota State on Saturday at the HPER Center Pool on the SDSU campus in Brookings.
The Coyote women improved to 7-2 in dual meets by rolling to a 134-64 win over the Jacks. The South Dakota men, now 8-1 in duals, were equally impressive with a 132-66 win over SDSU.
The South Dakota men had eight wins while the USD women recorded seven first-place finishes.
For the USD women, junior Audrey Donley (Arvada, CO) captured the 1650 free in 18:12.41. The 400 medley relay took first-place with a clocking of 4:11.11. The squad included junior Theresa Eustice (Waseca, MN), senior Jill Stensby (Portland, OR), sophomore Brae Olson (Hutchinson, MN) and senior Kari Kopecky (Roosevelt, MN).
Freshman Abby Heinz (Sgt. Bluff, IA) was a double winner, capturing the 200 free title in 2:03.87 and the 200 fly in 2:21.07. With the relay win, Kopecky had a pair of wins, also capturing the 50 free in 25.43. In that event, USD took the first three places with sophomore Christine Byrne (Caguas, Puerto Rico), second in 26.45, and junior Angie Stalker (Sheridan, WY), third, in 26.92.
Senior Lindsey Schafer (Mandan, ND) won the 1-meter diving competition with 215.47 points.
In the men's competition, senior Chuck Scribner (Hastings, NE) had three wins, including the 200 free in 1:48.65 and 500 free in 4:56.07. Matt Lind (Kearney, NE) second in both races, finishing in 1:53.87 in the 200 free and 5:03.94 in the 500 free.
Scribner was also a member of the USD men's team that won the 400 medley with a clocking of 3.49.88. Other members of the team included Dylan Smith (Cheyenne, WY), Eric Samson (Omaha, NE), and P.J. Sorensen (Lincoln, NE).
A pack of Coyotes had strong performances in the 1650 free with sophomore Mark Bryant (Omaha, NE) leading the way with a first-place finish in 17:46.20. Also for USD, Robert Hastings (Sparks, NV) was second in 17:51.32 and Scott Krivohlavek (Norfolk, NE) finished third in 18:31.05.
Junior Tim Byers (Billings, MT) won a title in the 200 back with a clocking of 1:58.99. In that event, Hastings was second in 2:10.03.
Junior Dirk Craft (Palmer, AK) was a double winner, taking the 200 IM title in 2:07.14 and the 100 free in 49.24.
Dan Gay (Fairbury, NE) won the 1-meter diving competition with 235.57 points. Cole Moir (Cody, WY) of USD was second with 225.75 points and Mark Anderson (Loveland, CO), third, with 199.20 points.
