Obituaries Willard Lind

Willard K. (Bill) Lind, LaPalma, CA, and formerly of Vermillion, died Dec. 31, 2003.

Funeral services were held at Forest Lawn in Cypress, CA, on Jan. 7.

Mr. Lind had been hospitalized since Nov. 5, 2003 due to a car accident. He was employed by the Los Angeles School District as senior environmental health and safety officer.

Mr. Lind was born in 1932. He attended high school in Vermillion. He graduated from The University of South Dakota with a degree in engineering. He was a member of the Theta Xi fraternity and was also a Shriner in the Masons. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, daughter Kristi, son Brian, and sister Joanne, who is also formerly from the Vermillion area and now lives in Concord, CA.

Lillian Anderson

Lillian M. Anderson, 85, of Yankton, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004 at Avera Majestic Bluffs Care Center in Yankton.

Lillian Nielson was born Dec. 16, 1918 in Sioux Falls, to Peter and Christina (Petersen) Nielsen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the Turkey Valley Lutheran Church, rural Irene. She attended Irene public schools, graduating from high school in 1937.

She helped her parents farm their land a mile north of Irene, and after their passing continued to operate the farm.

She married Clifford Anderson on Dec. 14, 1957 in Mission, TX. They resided on the farm while her husband was the superintendent of the Irene school. When her husband retired, they returned to farming. After retiring from farming, the couple wintered in Mission, TX, and later moved to Yankton. She spent her last years at Avera Majestic Bluffs Care Center.

She is survived by a sister, Edna Nelson of Yankton, and three nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, and a sister.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Irene, with burial in Hansen Cemetery, rural Irene.

Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hansen Funeral Home in Irene.

Paige Hansen

Paige J. Hansen, 63, of Sioux Falls, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls after a lengthy illness.

Paige J. Falck was born on Oct. 17, 1940 in Sioux Falls to Charles F. and Rona M. (Chadwick) Falck. She attended schools in Sioux Falls and Hurley, and married Wm. Peter Hansen on Aug. 16, 1958 in Luverne, MN.

Mrs. Hansen lived in the Wakonda and Irene area where she and her family operated Hansen Funeral Homes in Irene and Vermillion. Upon retiring from the funeral business in 1994 she moved to Sioux Falls and was employed at Gustaf's Greenery, until her illness prevented her from working.

Mrs. Hansen was a member of First Lutheran Church in Wakonda and later Calvary Lutheran Church in Irene. She was a long time member of Eastern Star.

Survivors include two sons, Bill of Irene, and Bob (Beth) of Vermillion; and two daughters, Brenda Hansen and Bonnie Simonsen, both of Sioux Falls. Also surviving her is a sister, Nancy Adams of Sioux Falls; a brother-in-law, Carlyle Nelson of Whittier, CA; three grandsons, Eric, Evan and Trevor; and four granddaughters, Taylor Paige, Laura, Allie, and Sarah; two nephews, Kyle Nelson and Greg Adams; and one niece, Amy Vasquez.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, a twin sister, Paula Nelson, and sister, Penny Sedelmeier.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 20 at Hansen Funeral Home in Irene, with burial in Rosehill Cemetery in Viborg. Visitation began at 5 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
