Professor named acting dean of graduate studies Barbara A. Yutrzenka, professor and director of the Clinical Psychology Training Program at The University of South Dakota, will be serving as the acting dean of graduate studies during the absence of Dean Royce C. Engstrom, who is taking a six-month sabbatical.
Dr. Engstrom was named a Regent's Fellow in October and is working on projects aimed at developing a statewide research agenda for South Dakota.
Dr. Yutrzenka received her undergraduate degree (BA) in psychology from Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, NC in 1975. She received her master's degree in 1979 and doctoral degree in clinical psychology in 1981, both from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.
Before coming to USD, Dr. Yutrzenka worked as the director of emergency mental health services in a comprehensive community mental health center outside Richmond, VA.
Her husband, Dr. Jerry Yutrzenka, is on the faculty of the medical school at USD and they have two sons, Christopher and David.
"Serving as the acting dean of graduate studies provides an opportunity for me to be of service to the university during the current dean's absence," said Dr. Yutrzenka. "At the same time, I see this as an opportunity for professional development to broaden my experience with academic administration from a graduate program-specific vantage point to one that encompasses a broader, institution-wide view.
"I'm honored to have been invited to serve as the acting dean and I look forward to working with the graduate studies staff, members of central administration, and graduate faculty and students during the next six months," she said.
