SDSU Pork Classic scheduled for Jan. 24 South Dakota State University's Pork Classic Barbecue and basketball game is set for Saturday, Jan. 24, in Frost Arena.
The SDSU Department of Animal and Range Sciences hosts the event in cooperation with the SDSU Athletic Department.
The SDSU men's and women's basketball teams take on North Dakota State University as part of the event. Doors open at 5 p.m., with the women's game to follow at 6 p.m. and the men's game at 8 p.m. Call 1-866-GO-JACKS to order tickets, or buy them at the door.
SDSU Extension Swine Specialist Bob Thaler said the event recognizes the contributions pork producers make to South Dakota's strong agricultural economy.
A pork loin barbecue will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. for $6 a plate. During halftime of the women's game, 20 pork bundles donated by John Morrell & Co. will be auctioned. Proceeds from the auction and the barbecue go to provide scholarships in the SDSU Department of Animal and Range
Sciences for students with an interest or background in the swine industry.
A pig will be auctioned off at halftime of the men's game, with those proceeds going to the SDSU Athletic Department.
