'Sloppy play' leads to 59-51 Vermillion JV loss by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers lost to the Pierce, NE Arrows 59-51 in boys' basketball Jan. 13 at home.
"Sloppy play with too many turnovers finally caught up with us," said Vermillion JV coach Jon Ruevers. "The result was a loss."
The Vermillion JV lost the game from three-point range, making 3 of 9 from long range compared with 6 of 12 for Pierce. The loss was aided by the Tanagers committing 20 turnovers.
The Tanagers jumped in front 16-14 at the end of the first period, trailed 32-24 at halftime, and then trailed 44-40 after the third quarter.
The Vermillion JV dropped its first game of the season and is now 4-1, while Pierce is now 5-1.
The Vermillion JV connected on 2 of 6 free throw tries. The Tanagers hit 23 of 48 field goals, while Pierce was 23 of 48 from the field. The Arrows sank 9 of 22 free throw tries.
