Tanager JV team nipped by Huskies by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers were nipped by the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies 52-50 in boys' basketball Jan. 20 at home as the winners held a slim lead after each quarter.

"We dug ourselves a big hole again with our lack of playing to our level," said Vermillion JV coach Jon Ruevers. "We need to focus on playing from start to finish."

The Tanagers fell behind 14-8 after the first quarter, trailed 28-22 after the second quarter, and then trailed 41-35 going into the final period.

The loss dropped the Vermillion JV to a record of 4-2, while EP-J improved to 8-1.

The Vermillion JV hit 1 of 4 three-point attempts and hit 7 of 13 free throw tries. The Tanagers made 21 of 45 field goal attempts, while EP-J was 18 of 45 from the field. EP-J connected on 3 of 8 three-point tries and made 13 of 25 from the line.
