Vermillion lets go of second half lead by Jim Prosser The Vermillion varsity Tanagers lost a second-half lead and were defeated by the Lennox Orioles 43-39 in girls' basketball Jan. 10 at Hartford in the third round of the Big Central Tournament.
Vermillion had led by five at halftime.
"Lennox is a very good team that will probably show up in the rankings very soon," said Vermillion coach Jamie Parish. "Their physical presence caused us problems on the boards and they are very patient offensively. Our kids aren't going to make any excuses but we have played four very good teams in the last week and played them well. We are playing well enough to win all of these games, unfortunately, we're jut not getting it done right now.
"If we start to rebound better and keep our turnovers down we will take those close losses and turn them into wins in the very near future," he said.
The Tanagers jumped in front 11-8 after the opening period, led 21-16 at halftime, and then trailed 29-27 going into the final period.
The loss dropped Vermillion to a record of 2-4, while Lennox improved to 5-1.
