Warriorettes win in OT over Lady Highlanders by Ally Eckert Finally, after a long winter break, the basketballs were bouncing once again.
The 4-2 Wakonda Warriorettes battled the Scotland Lady Highlanders in their first year in Class B on Monday, Jan. 5. A battle it was, needing one extra period to decide the victors. The Warriorettes defeated their hosts in overtime with a final score of 57-50.
The first quarter proved to be a blessing for the Warriorettes as they out-scored the Highlanders 17-8 behind the efforts of sophomore Ashley Anderson, who hit her first three shots, and senior Kim Henrikson with 6 points as well.
Rebounding was led by Johnston with a total of 11 in the game. These included eight defensive rebounds.
Anderson led in steals with six of the total 17 for the team. She was followed by Chelsa Bohlmann with five steals. The rest of the quarters, Scotland used to catch up ending the regulation contest all tied up at 44. The green team from Wakonda kicked it into gear to dominate overtime and win it 57-50.
The JV Warriorettes lost their game 41-18. In the JV play Wakonda couldn't get past Scotland's height difference. The Warriorettes finished with 13 points from field goals to 36 made by Scotland.
The varsity Warriorettes are now 4-2 on the year.
