Warriorettes win two basketball games at home by Lindsay Nelson The Warriorettes defeated the Avon Lady Pirates on the Warriorettes' home floor on Jan. 20.
The final score at the buzzer was 47-34 in favor of the Warriorettes.
The Warriorettes outscored the Lady Pirates the first three quarters, using tenacious defense to ensure their victory. At the end of the first half the Warriorettes headed to their locker room with a 17-13 lead. The start of the second half proved to be a strong one for the Warriorettes as they outscored the Lady Pirates 19-9. The Lady Pirates were able to outscore the Warriorettes 12-11 in the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough to take the win.
Leading the Warriorettes in their 47-34 victory was senior Nikki Johnston with 16 points and seven rebounds. Also a senior, Lindsay Nelson added 12 points and three assists in the win. Classmate and teammate Kim Henriksen crashed the boards with seven rebounds and added 10 points.
The Warriorettes netted 12 for 21 free throws and caused Avon to turn the ball over 14 times to guarantee the Warriorettes' success.
Next the Warriorettes took on the Freeman Academy Bobcats on Jan. 22 and took another triumph on their home floor.
The Warriorettes didn't allow the Bobcats to score until the second quarter in their 63-27 win. Johnston and Henriksen led the Warriorettes with 17 points each. Chelsa Bohlmann and Nelson added 10 and 9 points in the Warriorettes' conquest.
Henriksen dominated at the boards with 11 rebounds, followed by Bohlmann with nine and Johnston added eight. Johnson and Bohlmann also dished out four and three assists, respectively. The Warriorettes defense caused the Bobcats to turn the ball over 33 times. Out of the 33 times the Warriorettes had 21 steals. Henriksen contributed five steals and Bohlmann four.
The Warriorettes are now 7-4 on the season and 1-2 in the conference.
